A Letter from Josh Parish the Board Coordinator/Office Manager concerning the Oct 13th Special Meeting
Dear Olympia Film Society supporter,
To any of you who couldn't make it out to the special meeting this weekend to vote on the proposed bylaws changes, the two proposals to change OFS bylaws and provide for a member-elected Board of Directors did not pass with the full 2/3 majority required. (The full minutes from the meeting will be coming out later this week.)
Does this mean there will be no change to the Society's board selection process? For the moment, yes, it does. But it doesn't mean the voices of the nearly 62% of the membership who DID vote for the petitioned board-election proposal have not been heard.
A committee will most likely be created within the next week or so to explore several changes to bring to date our expanding organization's bylaws. The changes would include an allowance for member voting through the mail and a full, thorough proposal for member election of the board. The intention of this committee would be to prepare all these issues to vote at the annual membership meeting in the spring. I'll be looking to include a broad swath of film society members--definitely including those who participated in the petitioning process--to join the committee.
I understand deeply the frustration and disappointment felt right now by some of you who would have liked to see the proposal pass, but I ask very sincerely for your continued support of--and faith in--the Olympia Film Society. Its success or failure depends, now more than ever, on your continued cooperation and participation. I also ask for your best efforts at constructive collaboration with other film society members, even those who may disagree with you, and to not sink to disparaging them or the society itself, in weathering any changes we face together.
If you have any questions about how to join the committee, or about any other film society business, I welcome your call or email.
Regards,
Josh Parish
Board Coordinator/Office Manager
