Film Programmer - Helen Thornton
Helen is a 30 year resident of Olympia, Wa.  She has produced 8 years of film programming for NW International Lesbian Gay Film Festival (1987 thru 1994), has been the Film Programmer at OFS since 2003.  She has a B.S. Cal. State University at Chico in Health Science and Community Service, and enjoys modern dance, tap, and loves to sing and play guitar.  Her partner of 30 years, Marge Brown, passed away in 2006 they are the proud parents of their 23-year-old son, Asa Brown.

Office Manager - Josh Parish
Joshua Parish has worked with the Olympia Film Society since 2006, and has lived in Olympia intermittently since enrolling at The Evergreen State College in 1999. In the office, he divides his time between planting as many semi-colons and double hyphens in official OFS communications as possible and coordinating the agendas and activities of the Board of Directors. Away from the office, he is sometimes a freelance writer. Before working with the Society, he was an editor and writer for newsweeklies and small magazines from Portland, Oregon to New York City, the publisher of the online zine The Public Spectacle, the support boat captain for Christopher Swain’s activist swim of Lake Champlain in Vermont, a substitute teacher in Indianapolis, a salmon hawker in Seattle and, during high school, a box office attendant at the last twin-screen theater in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which was unfortunately bought, gutted and sold by a corporate theater chain. It was while working there he developed a fondness for America’s disappearing independent theaters. It was also there that he was disciplined formally by the theater chain for sneaking his friends into an opening night re-release screening of Star Wars.

While he does feel bad now for having let his friends jump other moviegoers in line, he has never regretted the fourteen bucks of lost revenue he cost the theater franchise one single bit. He and his fiancée, Taylor Painter-Wolfe, live near downtown and have a dog.
